Puerto Rico fresh roll quarters look dirty...Why????
Well I just received some rolls from my dad who lives in P.R. , personal rolls and every single one of them was heads/tails. In addition, every single roll was from the Philadelphia mint which is nice because they have the lowest mintages. One thing that bothered me was that the majority of the coins looked dirty. It seemed as if they were ran through water and hung out to dry leaving brownish spots all over. Does anybody know why that is...Check out the pics to see what I mean. Not all the coins are like that, this is one of the worst samples. BUt I really doubt that someone just dropped a whole bunch of quarters and rolled them....the rolls were dry and came straight from the bank
Any insight or opinion as to why they look like that would be appreciated. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...M/DSC00820.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y16...M/DSC00823.jpg |

Humid storage or shipping conditions?
Perhaps somebody spilled a soft drink on them? I'm not being facetious, it almost looks like dried Coca-Cola on the coin. |

Duh!
Perhaps because THEY JUST AIN'T real silver MONEY. Those funny Mickey-Mouse Tokens are made with pot metal and poopola - :signs14::111: forgive me it's just a minor RANT! :realmad: But it really gets the point across - our mint since 1965 makes FUNNY MONEY :36_1_32v: (535 in congress BOWING to the money lenders who fund their elections) with no intrinsic worth. Get the REAL THING like the Broken Constitution demanded - be there or be square (and broke). :puke: I just ordered several sets of the territories and the pink house in real silver for $30 a set of 6 from the US Token MINT. :signs14: |

Spend 'em, get more.
Chances are, the only ones that'll ever be worth one cent over face are proofs and satin finish (from mint sets)... and MAYBE mint wrapped rolls that are saved unopened (not bank wrapped). Mintage will be in the 80-90 million range for each mint mark, I think. If you want to hold onto current production rolls, Kennedy halves are the way to go. They are no longer really issued for circulation. Only 1.7M each for P & D 2008. Likely the same for 2009. Both those years, along with '07 (at 2.4M per mint), look like good long-term bets to hold by the roll. See: http://www.usmint.gov/about_the_mint...2009#starthere |

I have my dad which can send me many rolls from Puerto Rico so the worst case scenario is that I end up with face value coins. I buy them at face so its not a loss situation for me but I do really think the 09 Terr quarters will be worth getting. Im willing to bet the next few that come out will be even lower |

Toning???? Ive never seen toning like that. Looks to me like someone dropped some sort of liquid on them. Im still confused as to how those stains got onto a fresh bank roll |

QWAK,It could just be that in the process of making the sheet the blanks were punched out of a fiew sheets were spoiled and either no one noticed or cared that they were NOT perfect.:thinkey:
When the first layered coins came out -- very rarely but ocasionaly ,one would split open!:36_1_25: The process was refined and the minor problem :confused_ma: fixed. The layers are welded together by using HIGH EXPLOCIVE and the detonation fuses the entire surface at the molecular level:yes: They use the "BIG BANG" to make the sheets the blanks are stamped out of!:36_1_25: I would supose that there was an OOPS and NO ONE CARED -- they KNOW it aint REALY MONEY:yes: so they just go threw the motions of doing there job -- lost in a FOG --- probably thinking about HOW they are going to PAY for ALL the STUFF they bought on CREDIT!:hahaha::thinkey::36_1_25::yes: the DUCK |
